The Kosovo Ethnographic Museum was a highlight of my trip to Pristina and is a wonderful attraction for anyone interested in local history. It has a focus on the Ottoman era but contains exhibits from various points throughout history.

The theme is the circle of life, so the museums highlights each stage from birth until death with specific rooms designated for each cycle. There are rooms decorated for babies and children, as well as birthing rooms and funeral rooms. Other rooms display artifacts from days gone by like traditional pottery and jewelry as well as weapons, which was my favorite.

English guides are available to take you on a tour of the building, set in an 18th-century complex with extraordinary architecture. The museum was previously a biology museum and there are still a few remnants of that inside. It serves as an annex of the Museum of Kosovo and can be viewed as part of an overall tour or on its own. Reaching it is simple as it’s just a short walk from the center of town, and entrance is free to the public.

Locals also sometimes refer it to as the Ethnological Museum, in case you have trouble finding it.
