If you happen to be in the trendy Barcelona neighborhood of El Born (a few blocks from the beach) and are craving some freshly cut pastrami sandwiches, stop by Paradiso, a sort-of deli that is more than what it seems. The small, simple storefront features an ordering counter plus a giant refrigerator door to the left of the counter. By opening this door, your world transforms from a take-away deli into a chic, sexy cocktail bar with low lighting, high-top seats and a roster of cocktails to rival any speakeasy.
Creative mixologists, including the world-renowned Giacomo Gianotti, mixed up a bevy of colorful cocktails, some of which employ molecular gastronomy techniques for a truly unique presentation. The individuality and imagination behind some of Paradiso’s cocktails earned the speakeasy a spot on a few lists that feature the world’s best cocktail bars.
Pastrami fans need not fear because sandwiches can be ordered from inside the bar, as well. Because of the bar’s growing popularity, it is recommend to arrive early, shortly after the 7 p.m. opening time. The cocktails range in price from €8 upwards, and are served until closing time at 3 a.m.
