RIMOWA, the maker of small leather goods, teamed with German airline Lufthansa to develop an electronic check-in tag for your luggage.
The RIMOWA Electronic Tag launched at Future Travel Experience Global 2015 in Las Vegas, and is the first fully integrated mobility solution. The tag can be updated from the user’s smartphone using Bluetooth in order to make check-in a painless experience for all.
The Electronic Tag features an e-ink digital display which tells baggage handlers where your luggage is going, containing all of the same information previously printed on paper tags. By negating the need for check-in staff to fix paper tags to your bags, RIMOWA has found a way to let you skip the lines at the desk.
Only your personal phone will be paired with the digital tag, so no one else will be able to change the display. The tag data will be sent to your inbox along with your check-in confirmation, before you transmit it to the digital tag.
A number of Lufthansa passengers started trialing the tag in preparation for launch early next year. If the trial proves to be successful, RIMOWA and Lufthansa could prove to be at the forefront of innovation in the travel sector, making life easier for passengers around the world.
