London is a truly amazing place to visit, whatever you are most interested in.

There are plenty of world-class attractions in the British capital, but the problem for many visitors is their travel budget is strained by London’s famously high prices. Luckily, there are some handy tips that will save you money.

The first is to buy yourself a visitor Oyster Card. It’s most likely you will be getting around on London’s extensive public transport network, but the fares can blow a hole in your bank balance. With a visitor Oyster Card you will save more than 50 percent on standard cash fares, and the card gets you food and drink discounts to boot.

If the weather is good, you can either walk or hop on a famous “Boris bike.” The cycle sharing scheme covers the whole of Central London and it’s a great way to get your bearings, get some exercise and save some money.

While food, drink and accommodation may be expensive, some of London’s biggest attractions are actually free to enter. Major art galleries and museums charge nothing for entry, and other activities like the Changing of the Guards are free to watch.

If you really want to visit some of the most important paying attractions, getting a London Pass will save you a packet. For a one-off fee, you can get into more than 60 attractions, including the Tower of London.

Now that you’ve slaked your thirst for tourist sites, it’s time to hit the bars, which are notoriously pricey. Look out for happy hour promotions and student nights, and remember going out midweek will save you money over weekend drinking.

When it comes to food, eat your main meal at lunchtime. The recent trend for food trucks means tasty bites don’t have to cost a bomb.
