Tips / Travel

Traveling can be an expensive endeavor but transportation does not have to be your biggest cost. Instead of spending money getting around, put your funds toward fun.

Consider using public transportation instead of renting a car. This option makes the most sense for urban outings — make use of local public transportation systems and live like a local. Many cities have free downloadable apps and maps to help you find your way. Some cities offer bicycle sharing programs as well as buses, light rails and subways. Visit Bike Share for a list of U.S cities that participate in this program.

Look for hotel and event shuttles in the area. Many hotels have free airport shuttles and some concerts offer free pick-up and drop-off from a central location. Some cities are even hopping on the transportation trend. Los Angeles now offers a free downtown shuttle, thanks to local businesses and restaurants. Use this well-kept secret called Concierge Shuttle as a supplement to the city’s public transportation system.

Using lesser-known transportation routes and systems can help take a load off your wallet and give you more spending money.
