Shoti Restaurant, Kiev

It might seem counterintuitive to visit a distinctly Georgian restaurant while vacationing in Kiev, but Shoti is one of the most popular restaurants in the city and with good reason. The dishes here are absolutely delectable and the décor simply stunning; in fact, the restaurant has won awards for its atmosphere alone.

We booked ahead a few hours to reserve our seats, highly recommended in such a popular place, and were delighted to find such a courteous and professional staff upon arrival. If you’re able to and the weather is accommodating, try to book a table on their terrace.

For our starter, we sampled the khachapuri, a sort of cheese-filled bread, which we found to be quite the treat. My entrée was the veal khinkali dumplings, a must have when dining at any Georgian restaurant. Our favorite thing about this restaurant is the wine. The owner is Sergei Gusovsky, primarily known for his Italian eateries, and he mixes in an excellent Italian wine list along with his Georgian food. It’s a wonderful place to spend an evening enjoying a glass or two with friends.

The price is a little on the high side, but that’s to be expected for such fantastic food in a classy setting such as the one found at Shoti. I’ll definitely be returning on my next trip.
