Snap Maps: Fun or Creepy?

Social media apps always change and evolve, adding new features to keep users engaged and excited about the platform. Snapchat recently introduced Snap Maps, designed to do just that. Using your location and personal avatar or Bitmoji, the app shows where you are on a map of the world.

There are also features that show if you are driving in a car, at the airport, at the train station, flying on an airplane, on the beach or listening to music. How far is too far when we have the ability to share our every movement with our followers? Is Snapchat collecting this data? Do you trust all of your Snap friends?

Concerns over whether this new modification promotes stalking are on the rise among users. The good thing is you can always turn this feature off by going into “ghost mode.” Or, you can individually select the friends you want to share your location with,while excluding the ones you don’t.

What you want to share and how much you want to share is up to you. For some, Snap Maps is a fun feature that helps you peek into the lives of your friends. For other,s it can be a dangerous tool fostering unhealthy habits, or it can let someone you may not trust see where you are.

Always practice safety and discretion when deciding what to share and with whom to share it.
