Sometimes You Just Need 90s Drum and Bass

Whether you were there or not in the 90s, the UK was quite a crazy time when it came to underground music. There was even a law passed that allowed the authorities to shut down any music “characterized by the emission of repetitive beats.” (Section 63 of the 1994 Criminal Justice Act for any of those who were not shaking the gates of Downing Street.)

Drum and Bass came to national and some would say international prominence in this atmosphere that had its base in an anti-establishment sentiment, and you don’t need to be at the club to enjoy you could just as well stick on your headphones and enjoy a cross-country train ride that much more.

With hard-hitting beats and vocals that matched, jungle had an underground following that turned toward drum and bass after only four or five years. Like any other genre, it moved from the clubs to the mainstream and rightfully has its place in any 90s playlist.

Traveling is not just about seeing new places, but an opportunity to meet like-minded people from different places and cultures; music is one of the great levelers when it comes to this and who do you know that doesn’t like music with a good beat and some deep bass in the background?

If you can find a pair of Reebok Pumps, that would be a bonus but just make sure they are clean. So turn up the volume and hopefully your traveling companions will understand; it’s okay to drop some fast beats and relive the 90s once in a while.
