Spring Break: South Padre Island

Forget Florida, the ultimate spring break destination might just be in Texas. South Padre Island turns into an all-out booze fest throughout the month of March. From the beaches to the bay, it’s virtually impossible to escape the mayhem.

Taut-tummied tourists run rampant along the beaches throwing endless parties as well as on the boats along the bay. These college kids know how to hustle and during the third month of the year you’ll have a hard time finding a place to relax here. It’s definitely not family-friendly during spring break.

Clubs like Louie’s Backyard and Clayton’s Beach Bar & Grill are packed wall-to-wall while music festivals line the beaches. The Ultimate Music Experience is a massive electronic music fest that happens each year around the third weekend of the month. The kids start pre-gaming for this days in advance, so if you plan on going book a hotel nearby and get your tickets early.

Most of the action takes place along South Padre’s Entertainment District where the streets are lined with bars, restaurants and clubs full of Fat Tuesday parties, celebrity DJs and, if you’re sure you can hold down your liquor, Gravity Park has some fun reverse bungee jumping going on.

If you feel like putting down the PBR for a day, there’s also plenty of kite surfing, water skiing and poolside shenanigans to keep you busy. Just book your trip early, because this place gets packed.
