Some of Disneyland’s treasured attractions will be permanently shut down and razed to make room for the forthcoming Star Wars land. Big Thunder Ranch will take the biggest hit, forcing closure of Frontierland attractions and restaurants, among other rides in the 14 acres of development. Beginning early 2016, construction will begin in Anaheim, Calif., on a new section of rides and experiences inspired by the widely popular film, The Force Awakens.
With an unknown opening date, the Star Wars experience at Disneyland will be the park’s largest single-theme area. Two main attractions will be the big draws of this portion of the park and will allow visitors to witness a large-scale battle scene, as well as a chance to operate the Millennium Falcon.
Disneyworld also signed on to build a similar park on the same amount of land in Orlando, Fla. To coincide with the release of the latest Star Wars film, both parks already developed a Star Tours ride, Hyperspace Mountain and the opportunity to snap photos with some of the popular characters from the film.
With the opening of the Star Wars–themed attractions, fans from far and wide will arrive in droves for an ultimate Jedi experience.
