The capital city of Prague might get the lion’s share of visitors to the Czech Republic, but summer provides the perfect opportunity to explore elsewhere.

While the cold and snow make outdoor activities less appealing in winter, the summer heat makes the Czech interior come alive. Take a rafting trip along the Morava River, trek in the Krkonoše Mountains or bob along the Bata Canal on a pleasure cruiser.

If you want to relax, head to the resort of Lake Lipno in South Bohemia. The infrastructure is great, and there are many attractions that prove popular with tourists from all over Europe.

While Lipno is more family friendly, head to Doksy for a more raucous camping trip. Locals and tourists who are up for a party go to Máchovo Jezero, a lake with a long beach. You can also hike to Bezdez Castle if you are feeling active.

For those on a tight budget, the rustic surroundings of Lake Slapy are the place to be. There are few luxuries here, with only camping or basic accommodation available, but you can get your fix of water sports and enjoy the woods.

Keen hikers will enjoy the quiet mountains of Sumava in southern Bohemia, while cyclists can explore the paths that follow the majestic River Elbe. There is far more to the Czech Republic than drinking beer in Prague, and summer is the best time to find out what lies beyond the capital.
