Surveys

When it comes to accommodations, travelers have a wealth of options to choose from, beyond the typical hotel. However, a new survey from American Hotel & Lodging Association shows that, this year more so than last, Americans choose hotels over their other options.

The survey found 60 percent of Americans report they’re more likely to stay at a hotel while traveling in 2023 than they were in 2022. A large amount of these positive respondents were business travelers, who likewise said they have, for the moste part, either returned to pre-pandemic levels of business travel or increased their business travel since the pandemic began. Many of these business travelers are also interested in extending their business trips for a “bleisure” trip.

Looking at travel overall, the survey found a majority of respondents said they were more likely to take a leisure trip in 2023 than in 2022, while nearly half of business travelers said they were more likely to take more business trips in 2023 than in 2022.

“With Americans planning for more hotel stays this year and business travel moving in the right direction, [this survey] is a cause for optimism among hoteliers,” said Chip Rogers, president and CEO, American Hotel & Lodging Association. “This positive momentum is great news for the hotel industry as well as its employees, who are enjoying more career opportunities, upward mobility and flexibility than ever before.”
