If you’ve ever dreamed of flying off on an exotic vacation, de-boarding a plane and then re-boarding a stationary plane to spend the night, Sweden’s airplane hostel is a dream come true.
Located right next to Stockholm’s Arlanda Airport, the Jumbo Stay Hostel is an alternative form of lodging that invites guests to stay in a refurbished Boeing 747-212B jumbo jet.
Guests have the option of booking the cockpit suite, where two beds are nestled up against the pilots’ dashboard; the black box suite; one of two engine rooms that individually branch off from the body of the plane and can be accessed from the exterior via staircase; or one of the dormitory-style rooms with beds for four.
Seventy-six guests can stay in the Jumbo Stay Hostel, all have access to shared bathrooms as well as the Jumbo Stay café with one central dining table and additional tables and chairs by the plane’s windows. The café serves breakfast, coffee and sandwiches, and is open for non-guests to explore as well. A separate conference room accommodates up to 20 people in refurbished first-class passenger seats.
For a spot of fresh air, guests can head to the top of one of the wings to relax on an observation deck.
Beds in the Jumbo Stay Hostel range from $55 for one bed in a mixed dorm to approximately $231.55 for the black box suite.
