Tips / Travel

There is no better free souvenir than a photograph. A photo album can tell the stories of your adventures in a way nothing else tangible can. If you are less than satisfied with the quality of your travel pictures, there are easy tips to follow to liven them up and make them truly representative of your magical experience.

People

Don’t underestimate the human element when taking pictures. Sure, a photo of Big Ben is great, but a photo of locals chatting over coffee, browsing fresh flowers at a market or walking their dogs through a park? Even better. Including people in your travel photos is the best way to inject a true sense of local flavor into each snapshot.

Perspective

As mentioned above, a photo of Big Ben is great, but can be easily picked up at a souvenir shop on a postcard. Instead of only taking the classic postcard shots of landmarks such as Big Ben, the Eiffel Tower and the Coliseum, try to take pictures with a different perspective. For instance, maybe take a close-up shot of the Eiffel’s metal beams and bolts, or focus your lens on a nearby flower, with the Eiffel towering just out of focus in the background.

Food

There are too many food photography-related blogs and Instagram profiles to count, but grabbing a few shots of the local cuisine will spice up your travel album. Try blending the human element with your food photography by, for example, taking a picture of a child being handed his or her gelato order from a stand, or a couple sharing a baguette during an outdoor picnic.
