If you’d like to get out of town for Thanksgiving this year, consider these top destinations around the United States as your best bets for a great time.
New York City
You wouldn’t really think New York City wouldn’t be at the top of this list, would you? The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a part of nearly every family in America’s Thanksgiving traditions and everyone needs to see it live at least once. After the parade, enjoy a Thanksgiving buffet at one of the city’s top restaurants and then head out that evening to fight the Black Friday crowds.
Boston
There’s no better place to celebrate Thanksgiving than New England. Stay in the city and then hop over to Plymouth for a visit to where it all began. Stick around Plimoth Plantation for their Thanksgiving Day buffet, which includes a variety of traditional and regional dishes.
Chicago
With fewer crowds and many of the same attractions that NYC offers, Chicago is a great (and more affordable) choice for Thanksgiving. Be sure to check out the biggest German Christmas market in the United States — the Christkindlmarket, which opens over Thanksgiving weekend and offers a variety of handmade crafts and delicious traditional German foods in a convenient downtown location.
Washington D.C.
Head to Washington D.C., and catch the pardoning of the National Turkey, then spend the rest of the day relaxing before grabbing a great Thanksgiving feast at one of the city’s many traditional eateries. The day after, you can attend Christmas at Mount Vernon for a candlelight tour of the estate, or check out Gaylord National Resort’s holiday ice exhibit.
