Skiing is an increasingly popular pastime and it seems as though new resorts appear every year. Here is a guide to the best in the United States.
Alongside old favorites in Colorado and Wyoming, there are some new arrivals on the scene. Skiing in the United States offers great advantages in safety and the standard of resorts compared to Europe, and if Europeans believe it is worth flying across the pond then it must be for good reason.
According to many keen skiers, Jackson Hole in Wyoming has proven itself to be among the elite. More skiers visit each year, and there are varied runs, although the prevailing opinion is expert skiers will have the most fun. Daredevil skiers looking to push the limits of their skill should also consider heading down to Snowbird, Utah.

Breckenridge, Colo., is more accommodating for beginners and is relatively affordable, while still offering decent après-ski. If you are looking to splurge, Aspen is a classic choice for the well-heeled skier.
Mount Bohemia in Michigan offers one of the more unique experiences in U.S. skiing, while Mad River Glen in Vermont is owned by a cooperative of skiers. If you want something more authentic and less commercial, these are great options if comfort is not an issue.
There are plenty of options now that skiing has developed into a more accessible pastime, and a ski trip no longer needs to break the bank.
