While the best way to avoid being buried alive in an avalanche this winter is clearly avoiding mountains and snow, this is hardly an option for the backcountry daredevil looking for a pristine snowboard run in “freshies” that require a hike. Others who hike mountains in the winter should also be concerned for their safety and North Face has the answer with an avalanche airbag pack designed to keep you alive if an avalanche were to befall you.

The 24-liter Patrol 24 ABS Avalanche Airbag Pack uses compressed nitrogen to inflate two highly visible airbags to keep you on top of an avalanche once you activate the feature. In the event of an avalanche, the visibility of the airbags should also help in any rescue effort. Activation of the bag is achieved through the use of a pull handle located on the left shoulder strap of the bag.

Not surprisingly, the bag is equipped with a ski/snowboard carry system, because, let’s be honest, why else would you be climbing a mountain where you’re worried about avalanches?

Like everything you’ve come to expect from North Face, the North Face Patrol 24 ABS Avalanche Airbag Pack is a handsome, well-made and durable offering from the company that sincerely hopes you never need to activate its airbags.
