The resort community of Port Ludlow spreads along a small inlet on the eastern side of Washington’s wild Olympic Peninsula. The resort is a sleepy place of condos and vacation homes, where travelers come to relax, play golf and eat a fantastic meal. It’s also a great place for sailors, with the Port Ludlow Yacht Club and large boat marina at the heart of the town.

You don’t have to own a condominium to visit — or to feel welcome here. The Port Ludlow Inn, just off the marina, is a sweet spot to spend a night or two. The property oozes warmth and comfort without being over the top or ultra-posh, which would be out of place in the low-key Pacific Northwest. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the rooms are simple yet cozy, with fireplaces and jetted tubs and some with views of the spires of the nearby mountains as well as the water.

The centerpiece of the inn is the Fireside Restaurant, an excellent pick for dinner. Here, the extensive wine list has been expertly selected to complement the impressive food coming out of the kitchen, most of which focuses on locally-grown and foraged items from the region’s bounty of farms and forests.
