Traveling with teenage children can be a headache. They’re confrontational, often whiny and know how to throw a tantrum better than most toddlers; however, that doesn’t mean it isn’t possible to have a good time with teens in tow.
Bring Distractions
The best way to avoid an argument with a teen is the give them something to do when they’re in a bad mood. Bring along iPads and video games for them to play in case they start to get fussy.
Let Them Plan
Include teens in the planning process by allowing them to pick out places to see and when might be a good time to check them out. They’ll feel included and be more agreeable if you pretend they’re adults that can make good choices.
Bring a Friend
By having one of the teen’s friends along on the trip you’ll be providing a buffer that might prevent drama. They’ll keep each other busy and your kid will be less likely to cause a scene out of fear of embarrassment.
Don’t Leave Them Alone
As good as it might sound to have some teen-free time while you’re overseas, the truth is leaving a child alone in a foreign country is never a good idea. Any trouble they might get in back home is only amplified when foreign authorities come into play. Don’t do it.
