The master cleanse mindset is one of motivation — whether it’s to lose weight, get in control of eating habits or detox, motivation is key. Motivation, however, may come and go, especially when you see that piece of chocolate cake.
Consider a few of these tips to stay motivated on your next cleanse.
Declutter Your Space
While you’re cleaning your insides, clean the outside. Your surroundings and the environmental toxins that lurk deep below affect the health of your mind. Vacuum the floor, change your bed sheets and create a sanctuary for the duration of your cleanse, adding inspiration to your room.
Change the Conversation
The negative things you tell yourself in your head don’t help you achieve your aspirations. It’s time to change the internal conversation. Remove negative patterns of thought and turn them into a positive affirmation. Consider making this your mantra. Say it aloud every day and while you may not believe what you’re saying at first, you’ll get there.
Digital Detox
Block out at least one day of your cleanse to be a digital-free or minimally connected day. This cleanse is time you carve out for yourself to remove the junk and replenish your system with quality nutrition. Leave your phone at home when you’re out running errands or headed to the gym. Log off Instagram. Read a book or go for a walk. Your brain will thank you.
Cultivate Breath
When the physical or emotional side effects of the cleanse arise, breathe in order to reconnect. This helps to slow heart rate, deal with hunger and get through a mini-storm of erratic energy levels or mood swings. Refocus your mind in a gentle way by taking 10 deep breaths.
Don’t Quit
We aren’t perfect and sometimes mistakes happen, leading us to stray from the best path. If you give into temptation, don’t throw your whole plan out the window. A deviation will slow the process, not bring it to a halt. You’re doing this for you, no one else. Notice how you feel physically after eating off the cleanse; are you bloated? Hungry? Have a headache or energy slump? Then recommit. Remind yourself what your greater goal is and you have the opportunity to choose differently.
