First- and business-class cabins are ideal for a good night of in-flight sleep. However, if you find yourself with an economy-class ticket, you might have trouble catching up on your zzz’s. There are plenty of tricks to getting comfortable and making the most of your economy-class sleeping experience.
- Opt for a window seat. Besides being able to lean into the cabin wall, you will avoid having to get up every time your seatmates need to use the bathroom or retrieve items from the overhead bins.
- Dress appropriately. Wear comfortable clothing and slip-on shoes to cozy into your spot. Bring an over-sized scarf that can double as a blanket.
- Hydrate before your flight and use the bathroom before settling into your seat.
- Avoid caffeine and alcohol. While it might be tempting to enjoy a glass of wine to relax, the effects of the alcohol could disrupt your sleep. This will also cut back on bathroom breaks.
- Take ZzzQuil or Benadryl. The over-the-counter medications help ease you to sleep. Consult with your doctor before taking any medicine.
- Invest in quality earplugs and eye masks. For less than $10, order 50 pairs of Mack’s ear plugs, so you won’t feel bad if you loose or throw out a pair. Retailers like Target and Walmart offer a variety of eye masks. Close the window shade for extra darkness.
