Top 5 / Other

Some travelers use vacations as excuses to indulge, whether through shopping for handmade goods, spending money on fancy dinners or imbibing in the local libations. For the travelers in this third category, there are a few destinations that are known for their signature spirits. See below for some of the world’s best cities for drinking as well as the drinks that made them famous.

Munich, Germany: Beer

A visit to the birthplace of Oktoberfest warrants at least a few tastings of Bavaria’s famous beer. Spend a sunny afternoon in an outdoor beer garden, or head to the world-famous Hofbrauhaus where beer has been served since 1589.

Dublin, Ireland: Whiskey

We all have a little bit of Irish ancestry, best celebrated with a generous pouring of Irish whiskey. Any and every pub in the Irish capital city will have a variety of whiskey on hand, so ask for recommendations from the local bartenders.

Buenos Aires, Argentina: Wine

Known as having one of the best wine-growing regions in the world, the capital of Argentina is the best place to find the hundreds of wines made in the South American country. Take a daytrip out to a vineyard for even more exposure.

London, England: Gin

With hotels and restaurants solely dedicated to the English spirit, gin is experiencing a worldwide revolution. Head to where it is best celebrated for a cocktail with tonic, cucumber, lavender and heaps of other innumerable combinations.

St. Petersburg, Russia: Vodka

How do Russians keep warm? With their national liquor: vodka. Vodka bars in St. Petersburg bring together the classes and masses under one roof for a traditional Russian pastime. Try fruit-infused varieties or go classic and sip it straight.
