Clubbing is a phenomenon that stretches across the globe. If you’re looking for a sonic destination, consider the following five cities and their renowned clubs.

Womb, Tokyo

Womb is one of the most technologically advanced clubs in the world. The inside is a futuristic 1,000-capacity venue with a full digital sound system. Committed to high-quality sound, the club’s engineers actually eq and compress each individual track to fit the acoustics of the space.

Cielo, New York City

Manhattan’s favorite nightclub in Meatpacking is an intimate venue, holding just about 300 people listening to house and techno on a Funktion One sound system. Cielo is the spiritual successor to Limelight, Tunnel and Twilo, venues that defined New York’s club scene in the 90s.

Space, Ibiza

Regularly named the best club in the world, Space Ibiza has been around since the beginning. Thirty years after its founding, the club is still one of the most popular on the island thanks to its superstar lineups and open-air dance floors, one of the few on Ibiza.

The best clubs don’t just play music, they also help shape the scene, making Fabric one of the most important clubs in the world of dance. The Fabriclive mix series helped define various strains of electronic music while the club holds down London’s underground scene in a time when the city’s cracking down on club culture.

Berghain, Berlin

Like E-Werk, Ostgut and Tresor, Berghain helped cement Berlin as the techno capital of the world. While it’s become a bit of a tourist attraction compared to the city’s many other techno clubs, the door policy is still notoriously hard to crack.
