The music scene in Central America’s largest country is going through something of a golden period. Here are five of the best bands and producers to keep your eye on.
This innovative producer’s work continues to go from strength to strength, both in his solo career and his work with the band Fraeek — definitely one to watch.
The synth heavy band is a regular feature on the gig circuit in Guatemala City, and collaborated with Caribou drummer Brad Weber after he came to the country.
An enchanting mixture of R&B and indie rock, these guys are among the hottest properties in the country. They play regular gigs both at home and abroad, with a rapidly growing fanbase.
This duo hasn’t been around long, but its high-energy arrangements are gaining traction. Drums and synthesizers feature heavily, and the music videos are also well worth a watch.
Another indie band to watch, this time with a heavy Latin influence from bossa nova. They sing in both English and Spanish, and the recent second LP is a great listen if you want to get to know another staple Guatemalan band.
