Gear up for Halloween by visiting one of these most haunted cities in the United States.

Chicago

Chicago is home to many haunted locations including the Drake Hotel and the Congress Plaza Hotel. Strange occurrences have been reported at spots frequented by infamous Chicago crime boss Al Capone.

Gettysburg, Pa.

The tragic Battle of Gettysburg took place in this city, with about 51,000 casualties on both sides. The spirits of the wounded and dead soldiers still haunt the city’s parks, schools, churches, hotels and other buildings.

New Orleans

New Orleans often tops the list of most haunted cities in the country. In addition to the famed above-ground cemeteries, the city is home to many haunted locales including the Hotel Monteleone, the LaLaurie Mansion, Muriel’s Jackson Square restaurant and Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop Bar.

Portland, Ore.

The Portland Underground, also known as the Shanghai Tunnels, was used as a passageway for men who came to Portland to work. Many of these men were kidnapped from the tunnels and sold. The tunnels, as well as locations above ground, have been haunted since.

Savannah, Ga.

Many buildings in Savannah are built atop ancient Native American burial grounds — never a good sign. Visit places like Bonaventure Cemetery, famous for its appearance in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, and Marshall House, the city’s first hotel and previously used as a hospital during the Civil War.
