Italian cuisine is so frequently consumed in America, most people bleed marinara. The scent of good old-fashioned red gravy lingers in the air while preparing Sunday dinner or even a small bowl of pasta — there is no such thing as not a good time for pasta.
With that being said, check out our top five pasta dishes that will leave your mouth watering.
Spaghetti al Pomodoro
Truly heaven on a plate; the secret to this gastronomic sensation is using fresh and sun-ripened tomatoes without overcooking them, or good-quality tinned peeled tomatoes with a bit of garlic. Place a fresh basil leaf on top to finish the dish for a Mediterranean touch. Don’t forget the cheese!
Spaghetti Aglio e Oglio
A traditional and simple Naples pasta dish, fry garlic in pure olive oil with pepperoncino and be sure to cook the pasta perfectly al dente. Add parsley as a garnish, along with grated parmesan.
Pesto Alla Genovese
Originating in Genoa, pesto sauce is now a ubiquitous ingredient in everyday cooking. Simply combine home-grown fresh basil, pine nuts, olive oil and garlic and you have homemade pesto. The pasta is always greener with a little pesto.
Shrimp Scampi
Shrimp added to any dish, especially pasta, is delicious, but when you add butter, lemon, garlic and a splash of white wine to make scampi sauce, you’re on another level of delicious.
Basic Marinara Gravy Over Pasta
The Sunday gravy is as traditional as you get. Gravy is one of life’s simple pleasures and no pasta is complete without it — or else it’s just plain boring.
Everyday should be pasta day, but with that mentality say pasta la vista to your diet.
