The Van Gogh Museum
This museum is home to the world’s largest collection of works created by world-renowned Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh. You’ll see timeless classics like Sunflowers, The Potato Eaters, and Wheatfield with Crows, the painting largely believed to be his last. The museum also features work from van Gogh’s contemporaries in the Impressionist movements, such as Claude Monet and Auguste Rodin.
Rijksmuseum
As a focal point of Amsterdam, the Rijksmuseum is a Netherlands national museum founded in year 1800. Of a collection that numbers more than 1 million arts and artifacts, they have about 8,000 works on display, each involved in an aspect of the growth and settlement of Amsterdam. Masterpieces include paintings by Rembrandt and Johannes Vermeer.
Stedelijk Museum
This institution is dedicated to contemporary and modern art in many different media, including film and video, artists’ books, posters and furniture. Their rotating exhibitions are especially enlightening, and incorporate stunning displays of the museum’s dedicated research to modern artistic expression. As a traditional exhibition, they’ve annually presented “The Best Designed Books” of each year.
Anne Frank House
This sensitive and poignant collection is authentically preserved as the secret annex Anne Frank and her family used to hide from the Nazis in World War II. Anne Frank’s original red and green checked diary is on display in the museum, as well as many loose sheets and books of her short stories.
Hermitage Amsterdam
The Hermitage Amsterdam is the largest branch of the Hermitage Museum of Saint Petersburg, Russia, and houses rotating exhibitions. In the past, they’ve featured installations dedicated to Alexander the Great, the Golden Age and images of St. Petersburg.
