Ben Lomond Historic Site

The Ben Lomond Historic Site is open year-round for visitors by appointment or walk-in. The historic plantation dates to the 1700s and the main house, smokehouse and dairy were built in 1832. The site has a long, rich and unique history. A guided tour through the home detailing its use during the Civil War is an interesting lesson in rebel history.

 

Manassas National Battlefield Park

Manassas National Battlefield Park was host to two of the largest and most critical battles in the Civil War. The First Battle overlooked Bull Run. The sprawling acres are great for walking, hiking and touring.

 

Winery at La Grange

The Winery at La Grange is a beautiful estate dating back to the 1600s. The building was restored, remodeled and reinvented many times over, becoming La Grange Winery in 2006. The grapes are grown on site as well as shipped from various regions in Virginia and on the West Coast.

 

Tin Cannon Brewing Company

Airports with the Friendliest Staff

Where can you find the friendliest airport staff? According to Upgraded Points, at Portland International Airport. The travel company’s study focused on the 50 busiest airports, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Upgraded Points then analyzed Google and Yelp reviews for each airport, noting mentions of “friendly” or “rude” staff or TSA. Mentions were compared to the total number of reviews to calculate a ratio of positive to negative interactions, with each airport scored on a scale of 0 to 5 based on the ratio of positive mentions for a possible score of 50.
