Nestled on the northern coast of Spain sits a tiny town that has blossomed in recent years, thanks in large part to its booming culinary scene. San Sebastián on the Atlantic coast, making it an ideal place for seafood lovers and surfers. Named the European Capital Culture for the year 2016, there is no better time to visit the awe-inspiring locale and take part in the five activities below.
Bask in Basque Cuisine
The Basque Country region of Spain is known for their pintxos (or pinchos, pronounced peen-chose), small slivers of intricately prepared food served on small slices of baguette. Per the tradition, diners pile up plates with tooth-picked pintxos, and then keep the toothpicks to keep track of and pay for what they ate.
Hang Diez
San Sebastián has some of the best waves in the region. Surfers come from far and wide to ride the waves at Zurriola beach and kick back on the sand with a cold cerveza.
Stroll the Streets
The architecture in San Sebastián is an attraction in itself. Make a point to marvel in Plaza de la Constitucion and step inside the Baroque-style Iglesia de Santa Maria del Coro, which will built by local fishermen.
Relax
Adopt the Spanish way of life and spend your afternoon resting in gardens and quiet plazas, like Plaza de Guipuzkoa surrounded by greenery and wild birds.
Get a View
Hike up to the top of Monte Urgull for endless views of the town and ocean below. A few different paths are available and offer a number of photo ops along the way.
