Destinations / North America

The United States puts on a dazzling display of colors during the fall season. Leaves change from green to an array of red, yellow and orange, making for a breathtaking natural event. These are the best states to view fall foliage from sea to shining sea.

Colorado

Colorful Colorado is a beautiful place to be in the fall. The state’s aspen trees offer unique yellow hues. While you can view these colors throughout the state, the national parks and forests are where the colors really shine. Mid-September through mid-October is the best times to go.

Massachusetts

The entire state offers ample opportunities to see foliage during the fall season. Spend time in Boston, the Berkshires, Mount Washington and Sturbridge during late September and October for the best fall hues.

Missouri

Fall colors begin to burst in mid-October in Missouri in shades of deep red and yellow. Spend time in central Missouri at the Lake of the Ozarks for some of the best foliage in the state.

North Carolina

North Carolina stays warm later in the season, so peak fall colors come in late October and early November. There are plenty of places to experience fall foliage in North Carolina, though the colors of the Great Smoky Mountains are not to be missed.

Vermont

New England is known as a fall foliage destination. Vermont’s foliage varies by elevation and location. Colors are at their best from mid-September through the first week or two of October. Spend time driving along the Green Mountain Byway for stunning views.
