Tips / Destination

Fireworks displays are put on across the country to celebrate Guy Fawkes Night Nov. 5, and here are the best ones to visit.

Blackheath fireworks display is one of the biggest events in London for fireworks night, with the illuminations set to music. Entry is free, and there is a fun fair to keep you entertained all evening.

It might be 10 days after Fireworks Night, but the Lord Mayor’s Fireworks in London are worth waiting for. With more than half a ton of fireworks shooting up to 600 feet in the air, it’s a hugely impressive show over the River Thames in the British capital.

Elsewhere in the country, there are huge celebrations in Lewes, East Sussex, where events are organized by historic family societies. In Mary St Ottery, Devon, villagers parade through the streets carrying flaming barrels dripped in tar, which adds another spectacle to Fireworks Night.

If you want to see some fireworks in a spectacular natural setting, head to the Penrhos Beach fireworks in Anglesea, Wales. Local bands and fun fair rides add to the atmosphere before the fireworks start to explode over the beach.

In West Yorkshire, more than 70,000 people flock to Roundhay Park near Leeds for the community fireworks display. While the event is spectacular, the lack of entry fee means it can get crowded.

These are some of the best fireworks displays to go and see. However if you can’t make it to any of these events, just keep your eyes on the sky around Nov. 5.
