In the modern day of travel booking flights, hotels and other travel-related services is as easy as owning a computer or smartphone and a credit card. With the progress of technology, who needs humans anymore? As it turns out, millennials do.

Two recent studies revealed that not only do travel agents still exist, but millennials are relying on agents’ wide range of services from securing bookings, providing insider recommendations and tailoring entire vacation itineraries to fit the needs of the traveler, the latter of which is something web portals just can’t do.

According to one study from MMGY Global titled “2017 Portrait of American Travelers,” 33 percent of millennials who took part in the survey indicated they would solicit the advice and services of a travel agent within the next two years. Meanwhile, only 18 percent of Baby Boomers and 17 percent of Generation X respondents noted they would do so. A second study from the American Society of Travel Agents showed 44 percent of millennials considered travel agents a worthy expenditure, 10 percent higher than previous generations.

Analyses of these two studies rationalize that these statistics result from millennials’ desire to travel more, putting off starting families and having children and seeking ways to spend their disposable income.
