Valparaíso, Chile, is a port city, located about a two-hour drive from Santiago. With its bohemian vibe and beautiful viewpoints, it’s the perfect place for a daytrip. See the city for less than $100 a day.
Start your day with breakfast at El Desayunador. The café serves a variety of sandwiches, platters and egg dishes. Spend about $5. Visit La Sebastiana, former home of Pablo Neruda. Tour the house using the provided audio guide available in English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish. Adult admission costs about $10.
Have lunch at El Internado. Burgers are most popular at the bar and restaurant. Head up to the second floor for a table with a view. Entrées cost $15 or less. Spend some time exploring the charming boutiques and galleries throughout the city. Take in the street art, which covers many of the buildings and side streets. There are more than 40 hills in Valparaíso, so spend some time wandering for the best viewpoint.
Get dinner at Tres Peces. The restaurant focuses on sustainable seafood. The menu changes daily to reflect the freshest catch. Entrées are typically $10 or less. Tres Peces doesn’t accept reservations, so arrive early. Experience Valparaíso’s nightlife at Máscara Pub. The bar and nightclub features lively music and inexpensive drinks. Entry fees cost around $5 and may be cheaper earlier in the night.
