Trends / Unique Itineraries & Tours

Take the road less traveled on your next trip to Germany and explore some of the beautiful country’s more unique destinations.

Castle Frankenstein

In Mühltal, Germany, reside the ruins of Castle Frankenstein, once inhabited by Johann Konrad Dippel in the late 1600s. The goings-on within Castle Frankenstein are believed to have inspired Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, as Dippel was known to be an eccentric scientist experimenting with human and animal cadavers in the 18th century. The castle still stands with two towers intact and welcomes visitors to explore the grounds, chapel and restaurant.

The Bastei

Rock climbers and hikers may know of The Bastei in Lohmen, Germany, but the average tourist may not. The Felsenburg Neurathen was built in the 11th century and for three centuries dominated the land until it burned down in 1484. All that remains now are the incredible natural stone towers and a stone bridge — built in the 1800s to accommodate visitors. The incredible natural views are unlike most in the country and actually accounted for Germany’s first landscape photography focal point.

Rakotzbrücke Devil’s Bridge

The incredible architecture of the Rakotzbrücke, also known as the Devil’s Bridge in Kromlau, Germany, is a sight to see. Commissioned in the 19th century by a knight in the town, the bridge was built with local stones in a high, delicate arch, forming the shape of a circle in the reflection in the water below. Explore Kromlauer Park and the natural beauty, lush green forests and unique history on your next trip to Germany.
