The iconic Flushing Meadows facility will welcome the top names in tennis to New York in late August for the US Open.

As the fourth Grand Slam of the tennis year, the US Open is the last push for players to enter the select club of major tournament winners. Matches are played on hard courts, with Stan Wawrinka the current men’s champion and Angelique Kerber holding the women’s title.

Matches begin Aug. 28 and run until Oct. 10. Tickets to the day sessions can be purchased from Ticketmaster, with early rounds significantly cheaper than the later ones.

The US Open is held in Corona Park, in Queens. The area is situated east of Manhattan, and is also home to the New York Mets baseball team.

After taking in some sport, explore the rest of New York. For first-time visitors, check out the iconic Statue of Liberty or climb to the top of the Empire State Building. If you’ve been to the city before, hang out in the trendy bars of Brooklyn, or take a trip down to the beach at Coney Island.

As a major world city, you won’t be short of things to do in New York. Visit to see some tennis, and tack on a few days to explore the city.
