If a company makes one thing, and in one style, you’d expect them to absolutely nail it on the head. They’d have to make it perfectly, or it would be tough to take them seriously.

Enter CloudLine, a company that makes just one type of Merino wool sock. Their Switchback sock is designed for hiking, and it’s a hiker’s dream come true. The sock is crew length and thick, so it’s on the warm side, but it breathes beautifully. Your foot won’t get clammy after a day of tough hiking. And the Merino adds an antibacterial aspect, too, so foot odors are kept to a minimum.

The sock features reinforced “cushion zones” at the toe and heel to give you more padding where it matters most. And around the middle of the foot, the sock is a bit tighter to minimize slippage and add comfort. The socks have minimal seams, so there’s not likely to be a problem with blisters from the stitching around the toes. The effect is like having a cloud wrapped around your foot — no pun intended.

CloudLine’s socks come in an array of colors, which is about the only choice you have other than size. And that’s ok, when the product is this great.

If for some reason CloudLine doesn’t work for you, they do offer a 100 percent satisfaction guarantee: “You can be confident that you are going to love these hiking socks as much as we do. Or your money back. That’s our guarantee. If they don’t live up to the abuse of the wild. Your money back. If there are any defects. Your money back. If a bear eats them whole. Well. Consider yourself lucky. But we think you get the picture.”

You’re in between flights and ready to find a coffee and your next gate and settle in. But then you find the signs to your gate and look down the impossibly long corridor and wonder how you managed to have the gate at the opposite end of the airport.
