Will your summer travel photos just join an endless loop of Instagram photos of the same destinations? Or will you stand out? A new study from DrückGlück can tell you. The study looked at European countries’ top destinations and the frequency with which those destinations were used in Instagram post hashtags.
So, what’s the most Instagrammed and Instagrammable destination in Europe? The study named Santorini, in Greece, with more than 7.8 million posts on Instagram incorporating the destination into their hashtags. This top destination makes sense, though; just about any traveler can recognize the white walls and blue domes of Santorini.
Other popular destinations to make the top 10 list of most Instagrammed destinations in Europe included Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany, which you likely know for its fairytale aesthetic, as well as Charles Bridge in Prague, and the lavender fields in Provence, France.
However, other destinations in the top 10 weren’t as recognizable, even though they receive hundreds of thousands or even millions of their own Instagram tags. Such was the case with the Plitvice Lakes in Croatia; while you’ve likely seen these technicolor lakes in photos before, they’re not quite as instantly recognizable as, say, Charles Bridge.
