What Not to Do When You Visit Iceland

With a constantly evolving environment, Iceland is one of the world’s newest countries. Thus, it is important for visitors to keep this in mind when exploring the largely untouched landscapes so as not to tarnish the largely untouched terrain.

Some of the island nation’s major tourist draws aren’t equipped for the recent influx of vacationers. Visitors may find a lack of safety signs and handrails at some dangerous sites like glaciers and waterfalls. It is best to use your common sense when tackling the natural wonders and simply observe rather than participate in any extreme endeavors.

The weather forecast in Iceland is not always as straightforward and predictable as it is at home. Prepare yourself with layers and appropriate clothing for both dry and wet weather at all times. The volatility of Icelandic weather can leave you quite surprised, but don’t let it soak you.

If autonomy is important to you when you travel, hire a rental vehicle but don’t venture off the marked roads. As terrain can be quite unpredictable, going off-road will only result in unexpected obstacles that may not be easy to escape.

Among the glaciers, hot springs and waterfalls, don’t hesitate to drink some of the world’s cleanest water. Right from the faucet, there is no need for bottled water when hydrating yourself in Iceland.
