Walk in the door, drop your luggage on the floor and fall onto your cozy bed. You need a vacation from your vacation, you think, as your face sinks into your pillow. But before you drift off to sleep and dream of your just-finished holiday, there are a few post-trip tasks that need your attention.
Probably the most important duty involves logging on to your computer to check your credit card statements. Ensure all charges are yours, and contact your bank immediately if you notice anything unusual.
You’ve enjoyed days or maybe even weeks of protection from your ever-expanding e-mail inbox thanks to the power of the out-of-office reply. Now it’s time to face the mountain of mail, both paper and electronic. Sort your mail into important and not important, and breathe a sigh of relief when your inbox has been cleared out.
Unpacking is one of the most depressing activities to face upon returning from a relaxing getaway, but laundry needs to be done and you’ll have to be able to access your shampoo sooner or later.
When all of the above are completed in full, then you can allow yourself to rest and reset your body. Regardless of the time to which your internal clock is set, try to adjust to local time and do your best to ease back into your normal routines. Proper hydration and nutrition will help prevent common post-travel illnesses.
Ripping off the metaphorical Band-Aid is the best way to deal with the tasks you’d rather put off for as long as possible. Now is the time to rest more comfortably knowing everything has been checked off the list. Sweet dreams of your next adventure!
