Planning travel can be one of the most exciting aspects of preparing for an upcoming trip. But what if the worst-case scenario actually happens and the plans fall apart as easily as they were conceived? Follow the tips below to get your trip back on track and make the most of your vacation.
First, stay calm. Remind yourself how often plans go according to expectations (i.e., hardly ever). Before you even begin to plan, consider alternatives just in case your schedule goes awry. Being prepared (and calm) is the best way to handle disaster.
Second, use your resources. Mentally scan your belongings and your environment and consider whether any of the items or people at your disposal may be of assistance in whatever situation you meet. It is easy to get caught up in crisis mode, but distracting your brain with the thoughts at hand is not only productive, but also soothing to your sanity.
Third, redirect. If you´ve missed a flight connection or you have fallen a day behind your proposed itinerary, allow yourself to make a detour and change your direction. A good story and an even better adventure may await at the end of your new path.
