Restaurant

Looking for international eats in the Midwest? You can find them, somewhat surprisingly, in Bismarck. Try one of these three restaurants when you’re in town for a refreshing taste of the unexpected.

Anima Cucina

Part café, part pasta and wine bar, this all-day eatery’s chefs have been nominated for 2024 James Beard Best Chef awards. Don’t miss the restaurant’s weekly Tuesday Italian gastropub nights. Tastebuds not quite feeling high-end international flavors? No worries. Try the adult macaroni and cheese made with a selection of cheeses and torchio pasta.

Butterhorn

With a Top Chef contestant at the helm, Butterhorn is serving up Midwestern cuisine, but with French and Italian flair. Expect local ingredients and big flavors with a menu that features items like ricotta cavatelli, chicken marsala and the house burger.

Huckleberry House

Grab a seat in this restaurant’s outdoor dining space and enjoy an expertly crafted cocktail alongside Nordic fare. The cocktail menu includes fun options like the Johnny Sins, made with Johnny Walker Black, dark cacao, amaretto and dates, while the dinner menu also brings creatively named items to the party like the Uber Tuber salad with potatoes, bacon, eggs, Havarti, greens and buttermilk dressing; and the “Fine Schwein,” a bone-in pork loin with sweet potato and ham hash, and lingonberry black garlic barbecue sauce.
