Brisbane, Australia, just raised the bar for inclusive adventure tourism. The Australian city opened the world’s first wheelchair-accessible bridge climb, allowing everyone to scale one of Brisbane’s most iconic landmarks. Story Bridge Adventure Climb sets a new standard for travel worldwide; no other bridge climb globally has offered full wheelchair accessibility until now.

The bridge opened in 1940 and played a significant role in Brisbane’s growth, with more than 30 million vehicles crossing it annually. The bridge today is a Queensland Heritage Act-listed structure, maintained to last indefinitely. The bridge is about 262 feet tall and up to 3,513 feet long, with up to 535 stairs to the top.
The climb’s custom motorized stair-climber wheelchair was co-designed by John Sharpe, Box Wheelchairs and pro wheelchair motorcross rider Timothy Lachlan.

The experience is guided and includes commentary on Brisbane history and Story Bridge facts by expert climb leaders. A group photo is then captured at the top.
Story Bridge Adventure Climb allows up to nine participants per climb, including one wheelchair user and at least three support companions. Climbs last between 2.5 and three hours. Story Bridge Adventure Climb is now open for bookings.
