World´s Longest Passenger Train to Travel Through Australia

Train travel has become one of the best ways to not only get from place to place but also to see sides of the country that may be missed by other forms of travel. This summer, Australians and visitors to the land Down Under will have the opportunity to travel on the world´s longest train of 44 train cars that extends for 1,096 meters, or nearly 3,600 feet.

Australia’s Ghan train travels between the northern city of Darwin and the southern city of Adelaide, constituting a journey of 1,850 miles. Elsewhere in the world, freight trains match the length and capacity of the Ghan, but no other passenger trains can measure up. India is home to the second-largest passenger trains, followed by a Swedish train route between Stockholm and Lulea, and Japan´s Tokaido Shinkansen N700.

The Ghan train will feature 22 passenger cars, six restaurant cars, five lounge cars and additional luggage and crew cars. The train is so long passengers must wait to board in three different boarding sections.

During the summer journey of three days and 1,850 miles of travel time, up to 1,300 passengers will be able to experience Australia´s red wilderness in the most comfortable way possible.
