Although the park’s location means it does not receive as much attention as it maybe deserves, Xocomil is definitely worth a visit if you enjoy water slides.

The largest waterpark in Guatemala offers a number of different water-based attractions with a Mayan theme, including a large pyramid in the middle of the park. The park is just a short trip from the popular tourist hubs of Lake Atitlan and Quetzaltenango, and the heat of the coastal plain means you will be grateful for the opportunity to plunge into the pools.

Once you’re inside the park you have the choice of seven rides and five slides. Arguably the best one is the Rapidos de Xocomil, which is 148 meters in length. If you just want to chill out in the sun, head to one of the four swimming pools, or go to one of two wave pools for a slightly more active day.

Spend a whole day in the park to make the most of the facilities on offer, stopping in to one of the three on-site restaurants if you get hungry. Xocomil is an under-appreciated tourist attraction that should attract more visitors than it actually does. It’s well-run and maintained, and offers a great day out for people of all ages.
