When under stress, one can find a lot of helpful hints online or suggestions from friends. However, sifting through so many solutions can be its own source of hassle and anxiety. The best advice is to keep it simple. And yes, yoga is a huge asset when it comes to stress relief, but getting to a 60-minute class three times a week can turn into another item on your to do list. Instead of jumping into a full-on routine, start small.
Focus on three to five moves within a 10-minute session once or twice a day at first. Some of the best beginner poses for relieving stress include lotus, corpse, cat, cobra, downward dog and child’s pose. For some helpful instructions regarding how to form these poses, consult one of the many online resources.
Set a timer for 10 minutes and just focus on the poses and your breathing. This allows you to really relax for 10 minutes without feeling like you have to rush to your next task.
Starting off at a reasonable rate allows you to build toward a more steady practice, which you can extend beyond 10 minutes. Try to be consistent about performing these poses in the morning and at night. You will begin to reap the relaxation benefits within a week and may want to incorporate a meditation practice into your routine as well.
