Trends

Luxury travel planning service Zicasso recently revealed the results of its 2022 Luxury Summer Travel Trends Report. The company studied internal data of thousands of travelers and surveyed its global network of hundreds of travel advisors to present the top trends for luxury summer travel.

The report finds bookings for international summer travel are up 500 percent over last year for trips set to depart May 1–Aug. 31. Europe holds the top international travel spot, comprising about 80 percent of bookings for this summer. African safari destinations saw a 20 percent increase in bookings, with particular interest in South Africa. Travelers want to spend plenty of time away on vacation, with an average trip duration of 12 days.

After pausing travel during the pandemic, travelers are ready to start spending money again. The average spending per tailormade trip is up 27 percent compared to summer 2019. Upgraded hotels, private guides and high-end experiences account for some of increased spending. Many travelers opt to book closer to their intended departure date, with 85 percent of trips booked less than 90 days before departure.

Multigenerational travel is an emerging segment for summer 2022, with travelers more interested in solidifying close relationships. Those traveling in groups of six people or more grew 28 percent from 2019.

Top 10 destinations for summer 2022:

  1. Italy
  2. Greece
  3. France
  4. Spain
  5. South Africa
  6. Croatia
  7. Botswana
  8. England

Are You Ready for the Final Switch to Real ID?

Yesterday, TSA began enforcing new identification guidelines, a change that’s been a long-time coming. Now, travelers must show a REAL ID-compliant, state-issued ID in order to fly on domestic flights, in lieu of a non-compliant driver’s license (some other forms of identification, such as passports, will still be acceptable).
