Solo travel is the clearly underrated trend that has taken millennial culture by storm, but one of the drawbacks of hitting the road on your own is forking over extra dough for things like one-person hotel rooms, solo taxi rides to the airport and the dreaded single supplements for organized group tours. As this is a clear issue solo travelers have learned to expect, a website was born to aid in cutting the extra costs that often come with single-person trips.
GAFFL (which stands for “Get A Friend For Life”) is a website that connects travelers in nearby locations and allows them to split costs of everyday travel needs like taxi rides to common destinations, rental cars or full-on organized tours. Before setting off on a trip, travelers can enter their trip details, including destinations, dates, a bit of personal info and what they’re looking to do during their trip.
Most organized tours are cheaper when more people sign up as the tour company does not have to devote as many expenses as they would if catering to just one traveler. But if you’ve been waiting for years to take that African safari, hoping one of your friends will eventually join, you no longer have to wait.
Using GAFFL, you can find like-minded travelers interested in the same excursions, and partner or group to bring down the costs of single-person travel. To keep travelers safe, users must pass a multistep verification process, and other safety tips are clearly outlined on the website.
GAFFL users must pay a one-time fee of $6.99 to use the trip planning service as much as they want for one month. Yearly subscriptions are also available.
