Reviews / Restaurant

When making brunch plans with another couple, my husband and I decided to try a new Philadelphia restaurant, The Love. Owned by popular Philadelphia restaurateurs Aimee Olexy and Stephen Starr, the spot serves seasonal American fare in its chic Rittenhouse location.

We arrived just in time for our reservation and were seated immediately. We dined at the restaurant during its first weekend of brunch service and were excited to sample the offerings. Our waitress brought us water while we perused the menus. I opted to start with a gin brunch cocktail. While deciding on entrees, we put in an order of the mini muffin basket to start. Our friendly waitress offered some entrée suggestions, as we all were undecided. One of the items that caught my eye was the lox board. It was one of our waitress’ suggestions, so I ordered that as my main.

Our basket of mini muffins arrived to our table shortly after we ordered our entrées. The basket contained several each of carrot walnut, blueberry and corn muffins with a rich, creamy butter on the side. All of the varieties were tasty, though if I had to choose a favorite I would pick the carrot walnut. We each ordered a different entrée and everything looked amazing when it arrived. The lox board came with The Love’s smoked salmon, an everything-spiced bialy, cream cheese and cucumber salad. The items came unassembled. I appreciated this, as I am picky about my lox to cream cheese ratio. The cucumber salad was a refreshing accompaniment to the richer items.

The Love is a great spot for a brunch with friends. I would like to try the dinner service on my next visit.
