Tips / Other

The 2018 Winter Olympic Games kick off in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Feb. 9. If you’re a die-hard fan, but can’t make it to South Korea to watch the games in person, host an Olympics party for you and your friends.

Food

Prepare dishes reflecting the cuisine of South Korea. Ask your guests to bring a dish representing the other competing countries. You can also make desserts and other treats to honor the Olympic torch (ice cream cones) or Olympic rings (gummy candy). Serve beer, wine and spirits from the participating countries.

Games

Depending on when you host your event, ask your guests to fill out a ballot predicting the winners. You can even host a second, smaller party during the closing ceremony to award the winners. If you and your loved ones are really competitive, host your own Olympic games. Break into teams and plan a few competitions like tug of rope, an obstacle course or a race. Reward the winning team with a trophy, or just a nice bottle of wine.

Décor

Deck out your house or apartment in flag-themed décor from the participating countries. Or fully embrace support of the United States’ athletes and go red, white and blue. Encourage your guests to wear red, white and blue to show their support.
