Top 5 / North America

With so many spectacular scenic views, Australia is a paradise for nature lovers who want a taste of anything out of the ordinary. With scenery and wildlife you won’t find anywhere else in the world, here are a few favorite camping spots in Australia.

Mount Kaputar National Park

Populated with lush greenery, dramatic rock formations and an array of birdlife, Mount Kaputar National Park is a favorite in New South Wales. Mount Kaputar itself was formed from geological processes pushing two volcanoes together, and much of the park’s rocky formations are remains of lava from millenniums before. Keep an eye out for the one resident you won’t find elsewhere — the neon pink slugs that appear after a rain shower.

Narawntapu National Park

Also known as the Serengeti of Tasmania, Narawntapu National Park encompasses inlets, islands, wetlands, dunes and lagoons. Spot kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and Tasmanian devils among the brush, or keep your eyes peeled for the many Aboriginal artifacts still found on many of the hiking paths.

Munga-Thirri National Park

The largest national park in Queensland, Munga-Thirri is famous for its huge sand dunes, which sometimes grow as high as 160 feet. The red landscape includes salt lakes and supports many bird species, as well as dingoes and wild camels.

Wycliffe Well

In Australia’s Northern Territory lies Wycliffe Well, where campers visit for an entirely different reason. The small spot on the edge of the Tanami Desert is the UFO capital of Australia. If you’re not quite the extraterrestrial enthusiast, the destination is also within short distance of the Devils Marbles Conservation Reserve, where ancient, giant boulders are stacked atop one another and scattered across the dry panorama.

Cape Le Grand National Park

Western Australia’s Cape Le Grand National Park offers some of the best beaches on the continent sandwiched between rugged coasts and spectacular azure waters. Wildlife ranges from sunbathing kangaroos to primitive legless lizards. Rock climbing is a popular activity, as well as bushwalking.
